this isn't quite the sun, but i guess it's the closest to brightness you'll see in a midnight sky.

this picture was taken at 25,000 feet. i got off the flight about an hour ago, and the first thing i did (surprisingly enough, with my lousy track record of updating my blog) was to make sure i had a picture of the beautiful lightning show that we had witnessed from the window of our jetblue flight 383 (LGA to FLL, in case you were wondering).

the show was really magnificent. in fact, the flight attendant stopped at our seat as we kept shooting away and told us that in her five years of flying, this is the best light show she'd ever seen. the only thing i regretted was not having my d70 with me; i shot this with brian's canon s2 is. unfortunately, this camera failed to capture the true storm and clarity of the lightning bolts, and it lacks the sharpness to really illustrate the extraordinary nature of the sight. i'd have probably been a lot luckier with f/1.8 and without the delay before the image got captured. regardless, i think this is pretty neat.

Exif:

Canon PowerShot S2 IS
11.8 mm
f 3.2

ISO: Auto
