this is "the sphere," a sculpture by fritz koenig as a symbol of world peace. it formerly resided in the world trade center plaza but was damaged during the september 11th attacks and was moved to battery park on march 11, 2002.

a bit of post-processing was done on this image to enhance the beauty of the surroundings and to intensify the colors of the sphere itself.
